Almost twenty years ago, Kaiser Permanente started bringing farmers markets to our hospitals and facilities across the country. This was to make it easier to get access to fresh produce for our members, employees and the communities. The work to provide access to healthy food and meals continues with research led by Deborah Cohen, MD, MPH. Deb leads two programs, FoodRx that prescribes weekly meal plans that support weight loss and a newer initiative Standardizing Portions for Food Away from Home, that is working with restaurants on creating alternative menus with standardized healthy portions. This session will highlight these two studies and how Kaiser Permanente is thinking about integrating food into how we support total health.
