In the early 1990s, as a Peace Corps health volunteer in South America, Lisa worked in poor rural communities during a cholera epidemic. These communities had limited access to health care, the general public had a minimal understanding of what contributes to general health (for example, nutrition and handwashing), and there was unequal access to vital services such as clean, running water or toilets. Lisa’s experience in Ecuador instilled in her a lifelong commitment to improving health and health care, and a deep appreciation for equity and inclusion.
